Peterborough Regional Health Centre has been recognized as one of Canada’s first Age-Friendly Health Systems, joining a global movement to improve care for older adults.
The designation, awarded by the U.S.-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement, acknowledges PRHC’s decade-long commitment to its Seniors’ Care Centre of Excellence and a comprehensive seniors’ strategy.
“With 22 per cent of residents over 65, our community is aging rapidly,” said Noel Bennett, Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive. “This designation affirms our efforts to adapt and innovate in seniors’ care.”
PRHC’s approach is guided by the “4Ms” framework: focusing on what matters to patients, ensuring safe medication use, supporting mental health, and maintaining mobility.
The Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative launched in 2017 and includes more than 2,700 health organizations worldwide.
