Recent rainfall has forced the City of Peterborough to temporarily close all natural sports fields and baseball diamonds.
The closures began this morning and are expected to remain in place until at least 4 p.m. Monday. City officials say ongoing rain is making fields too wet for use and could lead to damage if played on.
Staff plan to inspect conditions Sunday morning and may reopen fields sooner if the weather improves. Otherwise, users are asked to stay off all natural surfaces to prevent further damage.
The city says wet turf can lead to unsafe playing conditions, and if repairs are needed, it could lead to longer closures and less field time for scheduled groups.
