With just two weeks to go until the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers open their 2025 campaign, lacrosse buzz is building across the city.
After more than eight months since they last hit the turf, the Lakers will make their long-awaited return to the Peterborough Memorial Centre on May 22 when they host the two-time defending Mann Cup champion Six Nations Chiefs.
The team has been busy during the off-season, connecting with fans at several local events, including Loonies on the Street, Lunch with the Lakers, and the Mac & Cheese Festival. They’ll also be holding a Meet & Greet next Thursday, May 15, from 6 to 8 pm at 100 Acre Brewing Co. on Ashburnham Drive.
Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships Pete Dalliday says their community presence will remain a priority during the season, with the team set to appear at high-profile events including Peterborough Musicfest.
On the floor, Dalliday anticipates this year’s roster will be a blend of fresh talent and familiar fan favourites, creating high hopes for another strong summer run.
As spring rolls in and the local lacrosse scene starts to heat up, Dalliday says this time of year is always something special in Peterborough.
The Lakers will play an 18-game regular season, with nine home games at the Memorial Centre. Ticket information is available at PeterboroughLakers.ca.
