The Campbellford Memorial Hospital Polar Plunge is set to make waves on January 25, 2024, with an ambitious goal to surpass last year’s $20,000 milestone.
Participants will brave the icy Trent River at Lion’s Club Park at noon, with passionate CMH supporters Bruce and Betsy Thompson matching all pledges and donations up to $10,000, doubling their impact.
Lead organizer Liz Mathewson it’s not too late to join in!
Aspira Island Park and the Sienna for Seniors Foundation are further boosting the campaign with a generous donation of over $10,000. This philanthropic effort reflects the commitment of Sienna Senior Living’s residents and team members, who have actively supported the Polar Plunge for years. Last year, they raised $1,500, exceeding their initial goal, and they aim to amplify their impact again in 2024. Royal Bank has also made a donation of $1,500.
According to Mathewson, the plunge has been a January staple for over three decades.
On the day of the plunge, Aspira Island Park team members will take the icy dive, cheered on by residents, before presenting their donation to the CMH Auxiliary.
Participants can also choose to take a virtual plunge anytime between January 11 and January 24, sharing photos or videos on social media with #plungeforCMH. The hospital reminds participants to exercise caution, as freezing water poses risks.
Mathewson tells us how the money will be used.
To get involved, register at the official Polar Plunge website and collect pledges. Together, the community is making a splash for local healthcare, one icy dip at a time.
Everyone is invited to come out and cheer on the plungers and the auxiliary will be selling hot chocolate to help keep you toasty warm.
