Peterborough’s Quaker Foods City Square will come alive with festive cheer on Saturday, as the city hosts its annual tree lighting ceremony. Now in its second year, the event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities.
The celebration, presented in partnership by the City of Peterborough and the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA), will include the official opening of the outdoor rink, weather permitting, along with Learn to Skate programming from 3pm to 5pm and an Open Skate from 5pm to 8pm.
Visitors can enjoy live music from a DJ, giant board games, kids’ activities, and photo opportunities with the Peterborough Petes mascot, Roger. Local vendors will also offer festive treats, including hot chocolate, beverages, and snacks.
The highlight of the event will be the tree lighting ceremony at 6pm, when Mayor Jeff Leal will switch on the festive lights. The tree, generously donated by Cedar Rail Farm in Bridgenorth, and the illuminated ‘PTBO’ sign will provide a scenic backdrop for the celebrations.
The event will also mark the start of the outdoor skating season at Quaker Foods City Square. The rink, which is expected to remain open through the winter months, will depend on weather conditions, with updates available on the city’s website.
