Jared Wayne made history last night, becoming the first Peterborough native to suit up for an NFL game. The 24-year-old wide receiver joined the Houston Texans in their 23-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars after being called up from the practice squad due to an injury to fellow wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson.
Although Wayne did not record any receptions during the game, he saw action on several plays, marking a significant milestone in his NFL journey.
The former Pittsburgh Panthers standout, who had an impressive NCAA career with an average of 91.5 receiving yards per game, signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent following the NFL draft in April.
His debut game saw him become just the third Canadian-born wide receiver to play in an NFL game this season, joining Texans teammate John Metchie and Los Angeles Chargers’ Josh Palmer.
Wayne’s path to the NFL has been a remarkable one, and his debut performance reflects the hard work, perseverance, and skill that have shaped his career.
