With the City’s start of the removal of ball diamonds in Bonnerworth Park, the fight to save the greenspace from redevelopment for the accommodation of pickleball courts and other amenities has heated up a huge notch.
According to Save Bonnerworth Park representative John Gerelus, the City was served Wednesday morning with a notice of a November 25th court date for an injunction to stop the work. He says two things are being sought – a squash of the bylaw for the park’s redevelopment and a stay on further work being done until the case can be heard.
Gerelus says the City could continue work at the park until the court date.
Gerelus says the money for legal costs to file for an injunction provided by ordinary citizens who not only want to see the greenspace left as is but are unhappy with the redevelopment plan and the political process which led to its approval.
With the next municipal election set for October 2026, Gerelus is confident that most objecting to the park’s redevelopment will have a long memory.
