For the Webster family, chocolate isn’t just a delicious sweet treat – it’s a way of life that has spawned a thriving business that boasts three locations.
It was back in 2021 that Elaine and Scot Webster took over The Chocolate Rabbit in Lakefield. Since then, their children – Nicole, Dylan and Kristine – have taken on growing responsibilities with the business, which has expanded to include locations in Bancroft and Peterborough’s East City at 72 Hunter Street East.
Product-wise, The Chocolate Rabbit has all the bases covered, from holiday-themed treats and gift baskets to homemade fudge, truffle boxes and their very popular Mudbugs, with most all of their products produced at the ‘chocolate factory’ in Bancroft.
According to Kristine, while The Chocolate Rabbit has dealt with its share of challenges – one being gaining a foothold during the height of the pandemic – the flip side has been very gratifying.
Chocolate, says Kristine, is a constant in a world where food trends come and go.
Kristine notes her parents and the siblings have defined roles in The Chocolate Rabbit’s operation, with her young niece and nephew “usually helping with the taste testing.” Her family’s business experience, she adds, has taught some valuable lessons for success.
