Members of the Nine Ships 1825 Board met with Canada Ireland Foundation Executive Director William Peat in Toronto recently to discuss plans for the Peter Robinson Irish Emigration Bicentennial in 2025.
The emigration, which laid the foundation for Peterborough, will be commemorated with events in the area next year.
Peat gave Chair Brendan Moher, Vice Chair Mary Smith, and Director Elwood Jones a tour of The Corleck Building, a new waterfront venue in Toronto for arts, culture, and heritage set to open in 2025, which will also house the Canada Ireland Foundation’s permanent office. The building is next door to Ireland Park, a memorial park dedicated to honouring the Irish Famine migrants of 1847.
The Board emphasized the significance of Irish culture in Peterborough, adding that they look forward to the Foundation’s involvement in future events.
