The Peterborough Lakers secured their second win in as many nights with a 15-7 victory over the Cobourg Kodiaks last night.
Despite missing three of their top five point-getters, Rob Hellyer, Joe Resetarits, and Holden Cattoni, as well as Turner Evans, Robert Hope, Mitch Ogilvie, and Austin Hasen, the Lakers delivered a strong performance, with rookie sensation Koleton Marquis and local talent Owen Hiltz stepping up big in their absence.
Marquis led the charge with a career-high 3 goals and 6 assists, while Hiltz chipped in with 2 goals and 5 assists. Thomas Hoggarth added three goals, marking his fifth hat-trick of the season, with transition speedster Colton Armstrong scoring twice. Also scoring for Peterborough were Jake Withers, who set the tone by scoring seven seconds into the game, Carter Page, Taite Cattoni, and Braydon Hickey, a Clearview Crusher Senior B call-up who was making his Lakers debut.
Despite the loss, the Kodiaks, who are coached by former Lakers Brandon Francis, Kyle Laverty, and Darryl Gibson, had a couple of milestone moments, with Nick Webb and Jeremi Phoenix both scoring their first career MSL goals.
The Lakers, currently in third place in the standings with a 6-4 record, will face the undefeated (9-0) first place Six Nations Chiefs on Tuesday before returning home Thursday for their final regular season game against the Brampton Excelsiors.
