Calvin Bakelaar has joined some elite company in being recognized with the ‘Emerging Artist’ award from the Peterborough Folk Festival.
The Peterborough singer-songwriter was given the honour last week.
Bakelaar says it is really cool to be recognized in this way.
Bakelaar will be performing at Market Hall on the first night of the festival and again at Nicholls Oval over the weekend.
Chair Rob Davis says in addition to exposure at the festival, Bakelaar will get to attend the Folk Music Ontario Conference in the fall.
Prior winners include: Serena Ryder, Irish Millie and Dylan Ireland.
