Peterborough city council has supported the redevelopment plan for Bonnerworth Park – which includes 16 pickleball courts.
The plan received final approval on Monday night despite some spirited debate on whether or not to pause that project, mainly due to complaints from nearby neighbours about an increase in noise and the reduction of green space.
Councillor Lesley Parnell, who is the Chair of Arenas, Parks and Recreation, says going ahead is the right move.
Mayor Jeff Leal also threw his support behind the courts.
One of the councillors who wanted to pause the project in order to reconsider and do more consultation was Joy Lachica.
Also voting for a pause were Alex Bierk and Keith Riel.
The redevelopment plan will also include an expansion of the existing skateboard area and a new specialized bike track. Construction is expected to start this fall.
