A longtime Peterborough paramedic has done a huge 360, leaving her profession after 14 years to open and operate a flower farm in Ennismore.
With no agricultural or horticultural experience but armed with a love of flowers and a deep appreciation for their mental health benefits, Kelly Convery opened The Flower Patch. Now branded as Sanctuary Flower Fields, her business fills flower orders as well as does floral design and provides a setting for photographers.
Convery says her business idea took flight after a cousin introduced her to her cut flower garden.
Convery admits changing her career course was “scary” but felt right.
Covery reflects on the transition from first responder to flower grower, saying as challenging as it was, it was the right thing to do.
Covery’s advice to those who considering a change in careers is “stay curious” and consider “what deep down makes you happy.”
