Parks Canada’s fifth annual “Lock & Paddle” event is set to take place on Saturday at the Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site of Canada.
The event, themed “Lift Your Spirits,” aims to celebrate happiness and joy through a unique paddling experience. Paddlers and spectators are invited to join the festivities, which will start at 3:00 p.m.
Participants can look forward to witnessing hundreds of decorated canoes and colorful kayaks, as well as enjoy the exhilarating experience of entering the World’s Tallest Hydraulic Lift Lock. This exceptional adventure lifts paddlers 65 feet (20 meters) into the air, creating lasting memories for families and friends. The event is open to all ages and encourages participants to decorate their vessels, wear costumes, or simply bring their smiles.
Paddlers interested in joining the 2023 Lock & Paddle event are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting the event’s webpage for information on requirements, paddlecraft rentals, parking, and other relevant details. The event will proceed rain or shine and remains a smoke-free and alcohol-free occasion. Attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and treat their fellow paddlers with respect.
