Potential residents of small housing units destined for Wolfe Street learned more about the project this week in conversation with outreach workers.
As approved by Peterborough city council back in May, 50 modulr home units will be built off site starting in September and will be delivered to the Wolfe Street location. Each unit will have electricity as well as a heating and cooling system. Occupancy is expected to begin later in the fall.
On Thursday (August 10th), outreach workers visited the Wolfe Street homeless encampment to share details of the project and shed light on how the housing community, which will also include a winter overnight drop-in centre, will operate.
City councillor Alex Bierk, vice chair of Peterborough’s housing and homelessness portfolios, says the outreach is about “meeting people where they are at.”
“This is a significant step in the right direction to address the needs of the community, and establish structure and support in the area,” he added.
