It’s been 17 years since the Peterborough Petes last played in an Ontario Hockey League final. That will all change tonight though as the Petes get set to face the London Knights in game one of the OHL Championship Series.
Peterborough’s last OHL Championship Series was also against London, a series they swept in four games, before going on to Moncton, New Brunswick, where they competed in the 2006 Memorial Cup.
Petes forward JR Avon was just three years old at the time of Peterborough’s last OHL title run but says he’s been dreaming of this moment ever since.
The Peterborough native is excited to live out that dream tonight but says the journey to get to this point has been anything but easy.
As far as what to expect from this next series, Avon says he’s been leaning on his brother, former London Knight Chad Heffernan, for that.
You can listen to Peterborough Kia Petes hockey on three of our stations, FREQ 90.5, Oldies 96.7 and Classic Rock 107, beginning with the Tailgate Show at 6:30pm.
