‘Capable Con’ is returning to Peterborough later this year for another afternoon dedicated to accessible activities that will educate, and spark the conversation about accessible living for those living with, or will live with disability.
This year, the celebration will be hosted at Millennium Park, and aims to inspire much-needed conversation about the importance of accessible features in our community. CPD’s Program and Marketing assistant, Jason King, explains that the easy way to strip the conversational barrier is to just ask about it.
From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. anybody from the community is welcomed to drop-in for games, live stage entertainment, including the Imagine Studios dance team, and will feature CPD’s flagship virtual reality program, ‘Time in My Shoes’.
‘Time in My Shoes’ is a multifaceted simulation that lets users experience different accessibility issues to put into perspective the problems people face with mobility and cognitive exceptions on a day-to-day basis.
Included once again, is CPD’s band of everyday superheroes, the Capable Crew. This group of heroes represents the exceptional skill set people with disabilities develop to overcome the limitations they might be faced with.
Until ‘Capable Con’ kicks-off on June 3rd, CPD and the Capable Crew will be celebrating the differences in the region’s community in order to encourage students to be open to the conversation about the diversity disability creates.
