Longtime Peterborough resident Melodi Ryan is dropping her new single “Bleeding Out” on April 27th. The heart-wrenching single is more than just another catchy emotive pop song, it’s the beginning of a new musical chapter that Melodi thought she might not get to write.
Both soulful and tongue-in-cheek, Melodi’s music is all about being true to yourself and embracing who you are. Her lyrics are honest and relatable, and her voice seduces listeners with its warmth and authenticity.
Fresh off the release of her debut album in the Fall of 2019, Melodi thought she knew where her career was headed. However, best laid plans quickly changed as, just like for every other artist, promotion and touring were swallowed up by a global pandemic that left Melodi wondering, “What next?”
“The longer the pandemic hung on, the more it started to feel like I missed my opportunity to really go after a music career,” says Melodi. “As an artist, you put so much time, money, and heart into making an album, so to be sitting at home and not out playing songs to support the release of my debut felt devastating.”
While much of her career was on pause, the music kept coming and the beginnings of a new album started to take shape with each new song. It was around that time she reconnected with longtime friend Kevin Breuner, the SVP of Engagement for CD Baby (music distributor) and an accomplished guitar player/songwriter in his own right. The two began to hatch a plan to get Melodi back in the studio and capture the musical vision for her songs she had always wanted to achieve.
“Bleeding Out” is the first movement of that new musical vision which fuses passionate vocals over big drums, deep bass, and dark guitars; drawing from influences like Hozier, Florence and the Machine, and the Black Keys.
Upcoming highlights include being selected to showcase at the upcoming annual Canadian Music Week Conference and Festival a songwriter showcases in Toronto, and a full touring schedule throughout the summer.
“Through this experience, I feel like I’ve had the opportunity to step into who I am as an artist, express myself fully, and begin feeling comfortable in my own skin.”
