Trent’s vibrant community of alumni, staff, and students came together to break three major goals raised in honor of Trent Day 2023.
The annual Trent Day marks the date in 1963 when the University was formally recognized as a degree-granting institution and for the last three years, they’ve used April 4th to celebrate the community they’re built around it.
With no shortage of notable highlights to cover, between new donors partnering with Trent and other donations, the University raised $460,000 to go towards students and programs in the future.
Peterborough’s community of businesses have certainly recognized Trent’s student success with 31 new monthly supporters joining their lineup. This marks the highest single-day jump in supporters they’ve seen.
Trent’s success in these goals was assisted by their alumni, who participated in raising over 1,700 pounds of non-perishable items to be donated to food banks in the area. This beats last year’s food donation goal by almost 80%.
Trent alumni across the province spend their time with various charitable organizations and events to collect donations within other communities, this not only helps support Peterborough’s food bank, but Durham Region’s Feed The Need as well.
Associate vice-president in Philanthropy and alumni engagement, Sherry Booth said the support from the community is largely what Trent Day’s celebrating, and the engagement from the community reflects the University’s morales.
