A graphic but historically important photo exhibit at Peterborough’s Beth Israel Synagogue will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Titled Shoah: How Was It Humanly Possibly?, the exhibit will be available for viewing April 17th and 18th at the Weller Street synagogue but, unlike a similar display presented there last fall, this exhibit is recommended for viewing by adults only due to the graphic scenes depicted.
Outreach volunteer Jenn Reid outlines what visitors can expect.
With Stats Canada data reporting that Peterborough had the second highest rate of reported hate crimes in Canada in 2021, Reid says it’s more important than ever that education around the holocaust be stepped up.
Holocaust Remembrance Day, says Reid, provides an opportunity for parents to more comfortably discuss the holocaust with their children as well as build their own knowledge of what transpired.
Comprised of explanatory texts, photographs, art and documents, the photo exhibit can be viewed either day from 2 to 8 p.m.
