The City of Peterborough is set to host an Instagram Live conversation on Friday at 10am.
The conversation will include the City’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor Reem Ali, Public Library Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Jones, and Library Services Manager Mark Stewart on the City’s Instagram account @cityptbo.
Participants do not need an Instagram account to join the discussion, and a recording of the event will be made available afterwards. This conversation coincides with International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, 2023.
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is commemorated to remember the tragic event in Sharpeville, South Africa in 1960, when police opened fire on a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws“ and killed 69 people.
To recognize the day, City Hall will be illuminated in blue to encourage reflection and re-commitment to eliminating all forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and hate.
The City of Peterborough is a member of the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities, and strives to promote social inclusion, human rights and diversity, and eradicate racism and discrimination.
