The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) will be making a stop in Peterborough on Friday as part of their Secret Dream Gap Tour.
The game will be presented in affiliation with the Peterborough Petes and will be the first school day game hosted by the 67-year-old OHL club.
Several of the game’s biggest stars will be at the Memorial Centre for this game, including 3-time Olympic gold medal winner Rebecca Johnston, who is the Tour’s leading scorer.
Over 2400 students are expected to attend on Friday, as well as hundreds of people from the general public; Johnston says those in attendance can expect to be treated to a very competitive game.
The superstar forward grew up playing with the boys, because there weren’t many girls teams, and says it’s a special feeling to see how much the game has grown since then.
Along with her three Olympic gold medals, Johnston has also won an Olympic silver medal, seven World Championship silvers, a bronze, and two world golds. She is also one of the top ten all-time point getters in Canadian women’s hockey history.
The Sudbury native, who currently works in player development for the Calgary Flames, has also appeared in two NHL Skills competitions, one of only a handful of women who can boast that.
As one of the best hockey players on the planet, Johnston is a role model for many young kids who are striving to make their dreams come true. For those dreamers, her message is simple;
