A protest of Drag Queen Story Time will be held January 14th outside the Peterborough Public Library – the second such protest since September.
At issue for the group is drag queen Betty Baker’s hosting story time for children aged 3 to 8, which will happen at 10:15 a.m.
Speaking on YourTV earlier this week, protest co-organizer Ben Inglis, a pastor with Hill City Baptist Church, says his group believes that drag culture has no business being “within 100 miles of kids.”
For her part, Baker, a Peterborough native, notes the September story time that she hosted drew 175 kids – one of the largest turnouts in recent memory. She adds the themes of her presentation should be the focus, not who’s presenting them.
As for the protest, Baker says while it’s unsettling, it’s an action born from ignorance, both of her personally and of drag culture.
Meanwhile, library will have extra security in place and city police have been notified of the protest.
