With 2023 sure to present its fair share of challenges locally, one in particular – housing the homeless – promises to be particularly daunting.
That’s not lost on Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith, who says the real issue is the lack of transitional housing as opposed to shelter space availability.
That said, MPP Smith acknowledges that in the short term, more shelter space has to be created.
While he applauds recent city councillor-driven efforts to shelter the homeless, MPP Smith says a well thought-out plan has to be in place before any requests for funding will prove successful.
MPP Smith notes that in Mayor Jeff Leal, the city will be well served by someone who has a long history of working well with others to get things done, and well knows the political landscape at both the municipal and provincial levels.
