Peterborough’s annual Dragon Boat Festival splashed its way to $202,268 raised on June 11, with all proceeds going to the purchase of state-of-the-art cancer treatment equipment at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Festival chair Michelle Thornton was among those who gathered October 4th, presenting a cheque to the hospital’s foundation. She says after two years of holding the festival virtually, it was terrific to be back on Little Lake where it all began back in 2001.
Thornton says the close to $4 million raised since the festival’s inception is “mind blowing.”
While the festival’s proceeds are hugely important, Thornton says there’s a secondary benefit that can’t be overstated.
A cancer survivor and member of the Survivors Abreast team, Thornton will return as chair of the 2023 event.
