Today is provincial election day, as Ontarians will head to the polls and decide who will lead the province for the next four years.
A lot of eyes from around the province will be watching our region very closely. Why you might ask? Well Peterborough has voted for the party that has won the most seats in every election since 1977.
Peterborough-Kawartha Returning Officer Rod Manley says you should check your card to find out where to vote.
Your election day voting location details can be found at the top left corner of the front of the card. It tells you your polling location, times its open, and which riding you are voting in. He adds that you don’t have to bring your voter’s card to vote, just some photo ID.
In 2018, 24,000 votes was good enough to win and local candidates have stayed busy over the past few days giving a last second pitch to voters.
More than 10% of eligible voters in Peterborough-Kawartha cast a ballot during advanced polls. Your candidates are incumbent Progressive Conservative Dave Smith, Liberal Greg Dempsey, New Democrat Jen Deck, the Green Party’s Robert Gibson, Tom Marazzo of The Ontario Party and Rebecca Quinnell of the New Blue Party.
