The province has spent $2.7 million for the Pathways to Prosperity program which will be administered by Peterborough and the Kawarthas Economic Development.
This project will offer workers across the Peterborough region.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith says this will see hundreds of people receive the training and skills development needed to upgrade their careers.
CEO Rhonda Keenan says creating a collaborative partnership not only supports the job seeker, but the businesses in this community that are facing a critical skills shortage.
Keenan adds 15 cohorts of job seekers will receive training designed for 4 particular sectors.
Data suggests that the need to replace retiring workers is greater for skilled trades workers than for other occupations. In 2016, nearly 1 in 3 journeypersons in Ontario were aged 55 years or older.
This initiative is supported through the government’s Skills Development Fund.
