As gas prices across the country continue to go up, many are looking at ways to use less gas and hopefully avoid a trip to the pump.
With that said, the Peterborough Paramedic Service was ahead of the curve. In 2021, the service started using slightly smaller ambulances, which will result in roughly 164 tons of carbon savings once the whole fleet is replaced.
Chief Randy Mellow says it makes a big difference in fuel efficiency, which is important when gas prices spike.
Mellow says they’re always looking at different options to help save on gas, including solar power.
Mellow adds that budgeting for more expensive gas can be tough because of its unpredictability, however operating reserves could come in handy is prices keep going up.
Gas prices locally are just above $1.80 a litre in the Peterborough region.
