Teaching students is one thing, but how about teaching people who are already teachers?
Claire Mooney is the Acting Dean of Education, Teaching and Learning at Trent University. Originally from the U.K., Mooney made the trek across the pond 15 years ago and landed a spot at Trent.
Mooney describes herself as an educator who strives to build communities of learners, to ensure agency and give voice to students. She is interested in mathematics education and the experience of pre-service teachers as they rediscover and explore this subject.
Beyond this, Mooney is interested in educational leadership and how this impacts the work of faculty within higher education.
Why is it important for teachers to continue their education? Mooney says the main reason is because the world changes fast and the needs of today’s students are greatly different than the needs of those 10 or 20 years ago.
