Peterborough Petes goaltender Hunter Jones will not be making the trip with Team Canada to the Czech Republic for the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Team Canada announced Thursday night that the 19-year-old Minnesota Wild prospect was cut from the camp and will now report back to the Petes.
Jones says while it isn’t the result he wanted, he’s happy for his friend and Guelph Storm goaltender Nico Daws.
Jones reflects on his time with Team Canada camp and points to the practice games as something he thinks Team Canada used to make its decision.
Looking ahead, Jones says his focus is now completely on the Petes, as well as his NHL career.
This season for Peterborough, Jones has a 19-3-1 record with a .918SV% and a goals against average of 2.53.
Petes forward Nick Robertson will join Team USA’s camp on Monday.
