A 12-year-old Peterborough boy is facing two criminal charges following an incident that prompted a lockdown at Crestwood Intermediate School on Tuesday afternoon.
Peterborough Police say officers were called to the school at approximately noon on October 20 after receiving a report of a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they located a student who was allegedly making verbal threats while holding a large rock.
Police say an officer initiated a lockdown to protect students and staff while the situation was brought under control.
The student was taken into custody, and the lockdown was subsequently lifted.
Police confirmed that nobody was injured during the incident.
As a result of the investigation, the 12-year-old was arrested and charged with mischief and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on November 30, 2026.
In a letter sent to families following the incident, Crestwood school officials said the student had entered the building with a large rock and began damaging school property.
The school also confirmed that threatening comments had been made, prompting the emergency response.
According to the letter, the lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:30 p.m.
School officials thanked students and staff for their cooperation and emphasized that student safety remained their top priority.
