Peterborough’s baseball history is set to become the inspiration for a new public art installation, and the city is looking for artists to help bring the project to life.
The City of Peterborough is inviting Expressions of Interest from artists and artist collectives to create a permanent outdoor sculpture at James Stevenson Park, located at 325 Burnham Dr.
The installation will commemorate 150 years of baseball in Peterborough, celebrating the community’s longstanding connection to the sport.
The city is looking for an illuminated, interactive sculpture that will complement the park’s surroundings while offering an accessible experience for visitors throughout the year.
The selected artist or collective will be responsible for designing, fabricating and installing the artwork.
The project will also include interpretive panels in English and French, providing information about the sculpture and Peterborough’s baseball history.
The total project budget is $45,000, with funding provided through a Legacy Grant under the federal government’s Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program.
The city says the selection process will take place in two stages.
Interested artists must first submit an Expression of Interest outlining their qualifications and providing examples of previous work.
Following the initial review, up to three artists or collectives will be shortlisted and invited to develop detailed design proposals.
The winning proposal will become a permanent addition to James Stevenson Park, providing a new way for residents and visitors to connect with the city’s sporting heritage.
Additional information about the project and submission requirements is available at peterborough.ca/publicart.
