Peterborough residents who need to report certain crimes or incidents but don’t have access to a computer or the internet now have another option.
The Peterborough Police Service has introduced a public computer kiosk at its headquarters at 500 Water Street, allowing community members to submit online police reports directly from the station.
The kiosk is located in the station’s lobby near the front counter and is intended to help residents who may not have access to a computer, mobile device or reliable internet connection.
It can also assist people who need additional help navigating the online reporting process.
Police say residents who visit the station to report an incident that is better handled through the online portal can now complete the process on-site.
“As a Service, we want to make accessing the online reporting portal as easy as possible and this is another way we can do that in our community,” said Police Chief Stuart Betts.
The online reporting system accepts reports for a variety of non-emergency incidents, including theft, fraud, cybercrime, vandalism, graffiti and lost property.
Residents can also report stolen bicycles, thefts from vehicles, shoplifting, traffic violations, school bus violations and certain hate-motivated incidents.
Other eligible reports include break-ins to sheds or detached garages, harassing communications, trespassing and lost or stolen licence plates.
The system also allows residents to submit additional information related to an existing police report.
The new kiosk provides another way to access the same online reporting service already available through the police website.
Residents who prefer to report incidents from home can continue using the Peterborough Police Online Reporting Portal.
The kiosk is intended for incidents eligible for online reporting, rather than emergencies requiring an immediate police response.
