Peterborough residents have until November 16 to provide feedback on a proposed redesign of Ashburnham Drive and the replacement of the McFarlane Street Bridge.
The City of Peterborough has completed its Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for the project, which would see a section of Ashburnham Drive shifted east and a new bridge constructed over the Trent-Severn Waterway.
The preferred design calls for realigning Ashburnham Drive between Maniece Avenue and McFarlane Street, moving the roadway east of its current location.
A new McFarlane Street Bridge would be built immediately north of the existing structure.
Both the redesigned roadway and new bridge would include space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project was identified as a priority through the City’s Eastside Transportation Study, completed in 2023.
As part of the environmental assessment, the City examined several design options, considered potential impacts and incorporated feedback from residents before selecting its preferred approach.
The completed Environmental Study Report outlines the alternatives considered, the proposed design, potential environmental and community impacts, and measures intended to address those concerns.
Residents can now review the report and submit comments before the public review period closes on Monday, November 16, 2026.
The report is available online at connectptbo.ca/ashburnhamEA.
Printed copies can also be reviewed at Service Peterborough inside City Hall at 500 George St. N., or at the Peterborough Public Library at 345 Aylmer St. N.
Questions and comments can be submitted by email to ashburnhamEA@peterborough.ca.
