The Peterborough Public Library is giving young readers a new reason to explore its shelves, programs and services.
To celebrate Ontario Public Library Week, running October 19 to 25, the library is launching its own series of collectible trading cards designed to encourage children to discover everything their local library has to offer.
The first series features original illustrations by artist Brooklin Stormie, highlighting the people, places and experiences that make the Peterborough Public Library unique.
Beginning this week, children can visit either the Main Library or the Miskin Law Community Centre Branch to pick up a free starter pack.
Each pack contains three trading cards, including two common cards and one surprise rare or ultra-rare card.
Young collectors will also receive a brochure to help track their collections.
The initiative goes beyond simply handing out cards.
Children can collect additional cards by exploring the library, participating in activities and discovering new services and experiences.
They can also trade cards with other collectors to help complete their sets.
Those who participate will have an opportunity to earn a chance at a special prize, although specific prize details have not been announced.
While the promotion launches during Ontario Public Library Week, the trading cards will remain available throughout the fall at both Peterborough Public Library locations.
Special rare card releases are also planned, giving collectors additional opportunities to find missing cards and build their collections.
The library hopes the initiative will encourage children to engage with their community library in a fun, interactive way while discovering resources they might not have explored before.
Families can learn more by visiting either library branch during Ontario Public Library Week.
