Peterborough Regional Airport is celebrating a new chapter in aviation training following the official welcome of Toronto Airways and its flight training operation.
Mayor Jeff Leal joined company representatives on Wednesday, October 14, for a ceremony recognizing Toronto Airways’ investment in the airport, followed by a tour of the new training facility.
While the official celebration took place Wednesday, Toronto Airways began operating at the airport in May 2026.
The City of Peterborough first announced Canadian Flight Academy, which is owned by Toronto Airways, as a new airport tenant in February 2025.
At the time, the operation was projected to create approximately 50 direct jobs and contribute an estimated $20 million in gross domestic product to the local economy.
Those figures were initial economic projections rather than confirmed results.
“We are pleased to officially welcome Toronto Airways to Peterborough Regional Airport and celebrate this investment in our community,” said Leal.
“Their presence strengthens the Airport’s position as a centre for aviation employment, training and economic development, while creating new opportunities for students and future aviation professionals.”
Toronto Airways has provided flight training in Ontario since 1963.
Its Peterborough facility is now home to the Canadian Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence program, delivered in partnership with Centennial College.
The program offers ground instruction, simulator training and aircraft training, all at the Peterborough location.
The operation is supported by a modern fleet of 16 aircraft and an onsite Aircraft Maintenance Organization.
City officials say the investment further strengthens Peterborough Regional Airport’s role as a centre for aviation education, employment and economic development.
