When Jo Anne Fallaise founded Jo Anne’s Place Health Foods back in 1976, her Lindsay home workspace measured all of 500 square feet.
Five decades on, store locations at 1260 Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough and at 370 Kent Street West remain go-to destinations for thousands looking for natural foods, supplements and other health-conscious products.
Jo Anne retired in 2023, handing the reins over to her daughter Margo and her husband Paul, both of whom were inducted in Peterborough’s Business Hall of Fame 2025.
Front-and-centre in the day-to-day operation of the Peterborough store is general manager Sharon Walker. She says while staying true to Joanne’s vision of offering alternatives to conventional products has been largely responsible for Joanne’s Place 50-year success, there has been something else at play.
Walker says a focus of the staff at both stores goes beyond simply selling products.
Supporting local, says Walker, is a practice that remains well entrenched.
