Peterborough County residents now have a new way to stay informed about emergencies and important community updates.
The county has launched Alertable, a free public notification service that delivers timely alerts directly to residents, businesses and visitors.
The Canadian-made service allows users to receive notifications through text messages, emails, automated phone calls or a mobile app.
Unlike some notification services, Alertable does not require users to download an app.
Peterborough County Warden Bonnie Clark says the new system will help strengthen emergency preparedness and public safety.
“Keeping residents informed is a key part of emergency preparedness and community safety,” said Clark. “Alertable provides another reliable and accessible way for people to receive important information quickly and stay connected to the communities that matter most to them.”
One of the service’s key features is the ability to follow multiple locations.
That means users can receive notifications not only for their home community, but also for their workplace, cottage or seasonal property, or areas where family and friends live.
Users can also customize their notifications based on category and severity, allowing them to receive information most relevant to their needs.
The county says the service is designed to help people make informed decisions during emergencies and other significant events.
Alertable is free to use and is available to residents, businesses and visitors throughout Peterborough County.
