Residents across the Peterborough area are being urged to watch for heavy rainfall and potentially severe thunderstorms throughout Tuesday.
A moisture-laden low-pressure system is moving eastward, bringing showers, thunderstorms and the possibility of significant rainfall.
Forecasters say local rainfall amounts could reach between 40 and 60 millimetres before conditions improve later in the day.
As atmospheric instability increases, some thunderstorms could become severe, with heavy downpours possible through the afternoon.
The rain and thunderstorm risk is expected to gradually clear from west to east, beginning this afternoon and continuing into the early evening.
The rainfall could lead to water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions.
Motorists are being reminded not to drive through flooded roadways, as water can be deeper than it appears.
Residents are also advised to avoid low-lying areas where water may accumulate.
