Family and friends are remembering Thomas Minicola.
A former president of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and the 2021 recipient of its Business Citizen of the Year Award, Minicola died October 6th at age 88.
A Peterborough native, Minicola began work at Dominion in 1957 where he met Diane Peel. After they married, work took the couple to Markham and then Trenton before they moved back to Peterborough in 1967.
What followed was Minicola’s operation of a string of businesses, beginning with Tom’s Quik Chek, followed by Jiffy Lube, Charlotte Pantry and Brookdale Kwik Mart which he ran with Joe Sabatino.
A member of the Peterborough Sales and Advertising Club for many years, Minicola served as that group’s president in 1977. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, and played a key role in bringing Crime Stoppers to Peterborough.
A celebration of life for Minicola will be held October 15th at 11:30 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hunter Street West following a funeral mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter-In-Chains.
Donations in Minicola’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton.
