A veteran police officer who began her career in Peterborough is returning to the region in a historic leadership role.
Tina Maier, who started her policing career in Petrolia and Peterborough, has been named the next Deputy Chief of the Cobourg Police Service.
The appointment was announced by the Cobourg Police Service Board, making Maier the first woman to serve in the organization’s senior command.
Maier brings more than 30 years of policing experience and currently serves as Superintendent and Bureau Commander of the Ontario Provincial Police Security Bureau.
Her responsibilities include overseeing security operations at OPP General Headquarters and Queen’s Park, along with units responsible for protecting government officials, infrastructure and other assets.
Maier also worked as a detective and online undercover operator investigating child sexual exploitation.
She later advanced through senior leadership positions involving organized crime, counterterrorism, provincial traffic operations and security.
Maier also previously served as Superintendent of the OPP’s Healthy Workplace Team, where she led initiatives focused on employee wellness and mental health.
Cobourg Police Chief Chris Leather says her extensive experience will benefit the organization.
“Her background in major investigations, public safety initiatives and member wellness will be a tremendous asset to our organization,” said Leather.
Police Board Chair Adam Bureau says the appointment follows an extensive search and represents an important milestone for the Service.
Maier has received the Women’s Leadership Award and is a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
She says she’s honoured by the appointment and looks forward to working with the Cobourg Police Service and community.
Maier officially assumes her new duties November 2.
