The Canadian Canoe Museum’s second annual Lakeside Gala has raised $154,000 to support the Peterborough museum and its programming.
Guests gathered Saturday evening at the museum’s Lakefront Campus overlooking Little Lake for the “Excellence in the Making” celebration, bringing together supporters, community members, artists, makers and business leaders.
Janet McCue of Curve Lake First Nation opened the evening with drumming and a welcome for guests.
The event featured culinary stations from several area businesses, along with performances by pianist Thompson Egbo-Egbo and local musician JJ Thompson.
Live and silent auctions offered artwork, outdoor gear, dining gift cards, home décor and experiences. This year, bidding was moved online, allowing supporters to participate before and during the gala.
The museum also launched a Paddles Up campaign supporting its Youth Backcountry Tripping Program.
The Lindsay Family Foundation donated six new tripping canoes and 12 paddles, while gala guests raised enough money to add another two canoes, bringing the program’s dedicated fleet to eight.
“We’re delighted to support the Backcountry Canoe Tripping Program with six new canoes and help give young people the opportunity to experience the outdoors, build confidence and create lasting memories,” said Don Lindsay.
The $154,000 raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, donations and auction proceeds was complemented by another $62,000 in in-kind contributions.
