Peterborough mayoral candidate Michael Eamon says strengthening the local economy and creating conditions for job growth would be his top priority at City Hall.
Eamon has released an Economy and Jobs plan outlining steps he says he would pursue over the four-year council term.
“Peterborough can’t be an island. We need to look at the region in a large economic lens,” Eamon said in a campaign release.
His plan calls for expanding employment lands to attract industrial and commercial development, while building on sectors including education, health care, tourism, arts, culture and innovation. It also proposes working more closely with Peterborough County and neighbouring municipalities on regional economic development.
Downtown revitalization is another part of the platform, with Eamon proposing measures aimed at attracting investment, encouraging more people to live and shop downtown and addressing safety concerns.
Eamon says municipal councils cannot directly create jobs but can establish conditions that encourage businesses and employment to grow.
