Trent University and Peterborough Regional Health Centre have launched a new grant aimed at turning collaborative research into practical improvements in healthcare and other areas.
The Natalie Beavis Collaborative Research Grant will provide up to $21,525 in total funding for projects involving researchers from both institutions.
The initiative is named in memory of Natalie Beavis, a Trent alumna and former PRHC director who was an advocate for collaborative research and innovation.
“This grant is a meaningful way to honour Natalie and the spirit of collaboration she embodied,” said Evan Lyons, PRHC’s executive vice-president of Digital Services, Strategy and Transformation.
Projects can receive $14,025 in cash support, along with between $5,000 and $7,500 in matching funds through Mitacs programs.
Funding will support projects for up to 12 months, with student research trainees completing four-to-six-month internships.
Eligible projects must include collaborators from both Trent and PRHC, involve at least one research trainee and demonstrate potential impact beyond academia. That could include improvements in healthcare delivery, operational practices, policy or innovation.
The grant follows a PRHC and Trent research event earlier this year that brought together more than 100 clinicians, researchers and faculty members to share ideas and explore potential partnerships.
The two organizations have also launched a Research Community of Practice to support continued collaboration and development of future projects.
Applications for the Natalie Beavis Collaborative Research Grant are now being accepted, with a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, October 2.
