PTBOToday.ca asked councillor candidates to submit a brief bio, recent photo and short audio-recorded statement to represent their campaign.
I grew up on a farm in Stouffville, Ontario, and my life has taken a few unexpected turns since then. I was a child actor, attended arts school in Toronto, and later lived in communities including London, Ottawa, Gatineau, Wasaga Beach and Whitby.
I’ve spent the last 20 years in construction, first developing an interest in the trades while working alongside my first husband. Later, as a single mom in Toronto, I took design courses, renovated homes and eventually found my way into house flipping and construction.
I followed the projected growth of the 407 east, which ultimately brought me to Peterborough. Seven years later, this is home. I live here with my husband and 17-year-old daughter and own Black Rock Developments, my award-winning construction and design company.
My career has given me some incredible opportunities, including appearing on HGTV and Legacy Makers, but I’m most proud of the life and business I’ve built and my advocacy for women in business and the trades.
I believe you can’t complain about something if you aren’t willing to help change it—and that belief is ultimately what pushed me to run for Peterborough City Council.
