Ontario Provincial Police are reminding residents to leave election signs alone as municipal campaigns continue across the province.
Officials say stealing, damaging or interfering with election signs could be considered a criminal offence and reports made to police will be investigated.
Police say residents should respect election signs regardless of their personal political views or opinions about a candidate or campaign message.
Interference can include stealing signs, removing them from approved locations, vandalizing or damaging them, moving signs without permission or dumping them in ditches, parks or other locations.
The warning comes as campaigning continues ahead of Ontario’s 2026 municipal elections.
The OPP notes that theft and mischief or damage to property are among the types of incidents it investigates and accepts through its reporting system.
Anyone who witnesses election sign theft, damage or other interference in an OPP-policed area is asked to report it to police at 1-888-310-1122.
