After considering a 2026 municipal election run “during this entire term of council,” Rob Hailman put his thoughts into action, filing his nomination papers August 21st – the last day he was eligible to do so.
Hailman’s mayoral candidacy brings to seven the number of people seeking Peterborough’s top elected position. Despite the crowded field, he says it’s great for the city “that so many people are engaged.”
While his campaign has been underway formally for just awhile, Hailman has heard enough to know that downtown core issues, homelessness and drug addiction are front of mind for many, and they’re not happy.
Hailman says he brings personal traits to the table that he feels will serve Peterborough well should he win election.
As his campaign rolls out, Hailman is looking forward the most to debating his opponents, noting a lot of his motivation for running is rooted in “shaking things up at the debate table.”
