Lakelands Public Health has added a new physician to its leadership team.
The health unit has announced the appointment of Dr. Maxwell Tran as its new Associate Medical Officer of Health.
Tran completed his Doctor of Medicine and a combined Family Medicine and Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency at the University of Toronto, serving as chief resident for both programs.
During his residency, he also earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he was a Sommer Scholar.
Tran’s public health training included rotations with Halton Region, Peel Public Health, Toronto Public Health and York Region Public Health. He also completed provincial rotations with Public Health Ontario and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Dr. Tran to Lakelands Public Health,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Thomas Piggott.
Piggott says Tran’s combination of public health training and clinical experience in both urban and remote communities will be an asset to the health unit.
Tran also maintains a clinical practice in family and hospitalist medicine and has worked with patients in North York, Parry Sound, Sioux Lookout and Sandy Lake First Nation.
“I am thrilled to join the Lakelands Public Health team,” said Tran, adding he looks forward to working with staff, municipalities, First Nations and other community partners.
Lakelands Public Health serves Haliburton County, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, Peterborough City and County, and Alderville, Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations.
