Peterborough Police handed out dozens of tickets and warnings as officers stepped up enforcement around local schools during the first days back in the classroom.
Officers were stationed in school zones at the beginning and end of the school day in Peterborough, Lakefield and Cavan Monaghan Township.
Police issued 30 Provincial Offence Notices, including approximately 27 speeding tickets in community safety zones.
Other tickets were issued for offences including using a cellphone while driving and disobeying a sign.
Seven Part III summonses were also issued, including two for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and others related to vehicle equipment.
Another 14 motorists received warnings for various offences.
Traffic Sergeant McGill also visited Kawartha Heights Public School, where construction is underway on Kawartha Heights Boulevard.
Police say McGill monitored the school zone and spoke with school staff and the crossing guard about the situation.
Officers will continue to have a presence in school zones throughout the week.
Police are reminding drivers to reduce their speed and remain alert for students and crossing guards, particularly during busy arrival and dismissal periods.
