Peterborough residents could notice temporarily discoloured or cloudy tap water this fall as the City begins routine watermain flushing.
The maintenance program will run in various areas of the city from Monday, September 14 through Friday, November 20.
Flushing will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The City says routine watermain flushing is preventive maintenance used to remove scale and sediment buildup from the water distribution system and help maintain water quality.
Residents may notice their tap water becoming iron-coloured or cloudy for a short period following flushing in their neighbourhood.
Despite the change in appearance, the City says the water remains safe to drink.
Anyone experiencing discoloured water should run the cold water tap closest to their water meter for 20 to 30 minutes or until the water runs clear.
If the discolouration continues, residents are advised to wait one hour before repeating the process.
